DiorMag debuts today

www.diormag.com
DIOR, THE MAGAZINE
Dior’s new venture DiorMag went live today (www.diormag.com).  The magazine is designed to document the brand and its products.  It showcases some high resolution images, and videos of the house designs along with editorials on the fragrances and its sources.  According to WWD, Dior hopes to update the site almost daily and it has employed a full time editor, whose name has not been released.

I checked it out and honestly it looks more like a blog than anything else, there’s nothing innovative that would make me come back for more.  Yes, there are some very nice images and videos but that’s about it.  I have a different concept of what an online magazine should look like.  It should be a replica of the print version but with the advantage of active links.  I honestly don’t get it.  I’d rather check out the countless number of websites that showcase his work on the runways.  The concept of an online magazine should be a replica of the print version but with the advantage of active links.  One such example is the beautiful www.Matchbookmag.com .   Just like the print versions it comes out once a month and it’s FREE.  It’s a beauty of a magazine with great articles and interesting people.  Check it out when you get a chance you won’t be disappointed.

If money was no object "WISH LIST" Part 1

Clock wise: Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, Roland Mouret Dress http://www.neimanmarcus.com/, Breguet Reine de Naples watch, Gucci Delphine ankle wrap sandals,  Chloe Paraty Shoppe Bag, Van Cleef and Arpels watch

I know the saying "money doesn't buy happiness" but it sure does buy things that make you happy.  I always daydream about all the things I'd buy if I had loads of dough, so many in fact I know I'd bore you if I start listing them.  Of course it changes often, but the three constant are the Porsche car, Breguet watch and Van Cleef and Arpels watch.  This is Part 1 of  "if money was no object wish list."

Amazon dresses

Amazon is getting better by the day.  I love this site and buy tons of stuff from them and now they are carrying the cutest dresses.   These are some of my faves.

Printed Pants

Printed pants are apparently the new rage, and I love it.  I don't think I can pull it off though, I'm very petite with an hourglass shape, so I don't think they'll flatter me.  Lucky you if you can wear them, because they are gorgeous.  Check out my favorites below:

Payless Shoes are getting way cute

I'm so psyched about these awesome Payless designer collection shoes, I can't wait to add them to my wardrobe.  They have a serious edge to them and look so cute and of course they are reasonably priced.  Shown: Lela Rose, Isabel Toledo and Silvia Tcherassi for Payless. find them here: Payless

Blazer + Accessories

Today I met Marcela at a local store and just had to feature her because of how well put together she was.  Her outfit would have been boring had she just worn the skinnies and shell, but her blazer and simple accessories made her look so chic.  I must mention that her makeup was flawless and her attention to detail was spot on. Blazers and accessories can elevate even the simplest outfit so if you haven't already done so, invest in a good one.

I spotted this jacket at Ann Taylor and can't wait to get it.  It's perfectly crafted and  tailored.   It has a great cut, fabric and it's lined.

My Pink and Yellow dessert Table.

In the spirit of keeping up with all those beautiful colors out there, I thought I'd post pictures of a dessert table I made last month for a friends baby shower.   All edibles were made by me as well as all the decorations.  Those empty shoe boxes were a blessing; I just wrapped them with pretty gift wrapping paper and they were used as cupcake stands and marshmallow pop stands.

Perfumes

Perfume
What is it about perfume that can evoke so many feelings?  I love perfume, but I’m so picky about what I wear; if it’s widely available I probably won’t wear it.  I think a fragrance is so powerful and it has to be different and individual.  I don’t have a big collection of perfumes because very few really call out to me, and I like the little known perfume houses.  I have a few Bond 9 perfumes and since they are widely available, I’ll never wear just one, instead I mix two or three just to make it real different.  It’s great when I get compliments on my perfume, but I start to cringe when I sense the question approaching “what is it?”    This is going to sound silly but I don’t want anyone to wear my same perfume so I go to great lengths to avoid that.  In Paris I discovered a fragrance house and I had them ship one of their lovely perfumes to me…the shipping costs were absurd, but just knowing that not many people will be wearing it, makes me happy.   I’ve never received so many compliments, and if they ask I just tell them “I got it in Paris” and that usually puts an end to that.  I know that before the bottle runs out I’ll be on the lookout for a new one, as I grow bored of fragrances very quickly.  I've listed a few of my top favorite perfumes over the years.   What's your take on perfume?

Style Icon Zelda Kaplan dies at a Fashion Show....

95 year old Style icon  and clubgoer died on Wednesday while attending Joanna Mastroianni's fashion show.  “Passing away in the front row was how it was meant to be,’’ designer Richie Rich, a friend of the elderly fashionista, told The New York Post. “Zelda loves fashion, so she died for fashion. She would have wanted to go out in style. Zelda always said, ‘Live, live, live and have fun.’ I hope the angels are holding her right now.”  see complete article here:  http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/46413570/ns/today-style/t/style-icon-dies-fashion-show-front-row/

My Muse..

My Muse and I in Spain... Lovely place..

Mrs. Obama wears Target Dress!

Reuters, Target photo.

Okay, so I'm sure you already heard Mrs. Obama was wearing a Jason Wu for Target dress over the weekend at a press event here in Florida. I have yet to score anything from the capsule collections, since they are always sold out at my local Target.  Folks seem to be getting a little rattled at the quantity Target makes available at each store, but I don't think that's such a bad thing after all.  Do you really want half your town wearing the same Jason Wu dress that you scored for $39.99?  I know I wouldn't.  It is a capsule collection which usually means a limited quantity of items. If you are camping outside a Target the night before the collection comes out, then I think you do deserve to get that item and be one of the lucky few. I do wonder on the quality of these items, are they really worth the hype?  Maybe one day I'll find out, In the meantime I'll just enjoy watching Mrs. Obama wearing all those fabulously affordable items she always wears.

This brings me to another example of how fashionable the Obama's are.  Did you know that the Obama's have commissioned jewelry designer Kara Ross to create wood cuffs and trays to be presented to visiting heads of state and their spouses?  The pieces are inscribed with the first lady's name, and the trays with the president's.  Each are made from wood that has fallen from the White House trees.  If that isn't cool, I don't know what is.

I won't ever be able to get one of the above mentioned but this I can....swoon..

Beautiful Paris

How can you beat this view of the Eiffel Tower?  It was a 3 mile walk to the tower, casually observing those that passed by along the river.  Sure, you can take the Metro, but there's no price for the view.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.  Sure, it makes a great screensaver for the laptop, but it makes a much better memory.
Here's the Seine River in Paris.  I can't describe how beautiful the city is, without mentioning the fashion the people in France exhibit.  What a sense of fashion!!
I'm not much of a carnivore, but where do you see homemade sausage, hand-wrapped cheese (fromage as the French call it!)  on a butcher block table, waiting for next lucky buyer?   Reminds me of the farmers market held locally, or the ones held by the pier in San Francisco, CA.
Even in the rain, Paris shines!

Mopeds, Mini-cars, bicycles.....portion sizes sure are small in this place!

An Italian Picnic...

This is a Picnic Italian Style!  It was midday, mid week and this group of very animated friends were having a picnic in a busy Roman street.  They had set their picnic basket and pizza box on the trunk of that red beauty and they were enjoying life.  I just couldn't resist, I knew the shot would be perfect.

Whitney Houston

It was really shocking to hear on Saturday, that Whitney Houston had passed away at age 48.

Whitney Houston definitely had diva style. I can only imagine how many magazine covers she graced during her peak. It's not surprising she actually got her start as a model in the early 1980s.  I'm not going to dwell too much on this, but she will be missed!

A Flower stand in Paris..

Why is it that something as simple as flowers displayed outside a Paris shop can look so amazing.  The French do things with so much class, it's awe inspiring.  I'll be sharing some pics of my last trip to Europe in the next few days.  Hope you enjoy them.

Ok, so it's not Elie Saab...

On Friday I featured the talented Mr. Saab and his wonderful jewel tones, but let’s be realistic 98% of us can only dream of owning such fabulousness.  Thanks to our friends at  Anthropologie and J.Crew we can kinda sorta dress in pretty jewel tones, in a more reasonable price range.  Today I’ve put together pieces from Anthropologie and tomorrow I’ll feature J.Crew. Enjoy.

Elie Saab "King of Style"

Elie Saab became famous for becoming the first Lebanese designer to dress an Oscar winner, Halle Berry, in 2002.  I’ve been in love with his work ever since.  There are many designers I love, but not many win me over with every single item they design as Mr. Saab does.  These are some of the key pieces for the spring and Resort 2012 collection. The jewel tones are exquisite; I just wish one day I can afford to wear one of his pieces.  A girl can only dream!

Spring is in the air

Outfit 1: Georgette Shift Dress by Vince, Pour La Victorie Bonita Wedge Sandals, Coach Willis handbag  Outfit 2: Alice and Olivia Wide Leg Pants, Deep V Cashmere Bodysuit by ONE by C.Z. FALCONER, Jessica Simpson Cocoa heel, Gap Belt,Gap Leather Travel Tote, DVF scarf  (tie this to your bag handle)
Spring in Sunny South Florida is quite different from the rest of the country. We usually have sunny skies and warm weather, so the way we dress tends to be more like summer dressing, in fact I don’t thing we south Floridians notice the transition from spring to summer.  These are the pieces I’m eyeing for spring.

The power of a good handbag!

1.     Tory Burch Ally Satchel $495.00

2.     Olivia Harris Dual-Strap Leather Satchel $495.00

3.     Rachel Zoe Zoe Leather Satchel $450.00
4.     Michael Kors Skorpios Small Shoulder Flap Bag $850.00
5.     Rebecca Minkoff MAC clutch $295.00
6.     Rebecca Minkoff Nikki Hobo $495.00
7.     Cole Haan Alexis Frame Bag now on sale @ www. colehaan.com for $210.00

Okay, so you’re trendy on a budget and wear clothes from the sales rack at Target (I do at times), but do you also apply the same rule to handbags? A good quality handbag can elevate the look of even the simplest outfit. I’m a handbag girl and always lusting on a new one, and for some reason it’s always a luxury one. I don’t have many handbags but the few I have are good ones (pricey but worth every penny) and I get tons of compliments on them. I can spot a good handbag a mile away and that means “NO LOGOS” on them, for some reason I feel it cheapens the bag. One exception to this rule is the Louis Vuitton Speedy, which is a classic and would not look the same if it didn’t have the classic LV logos. I haven’t met a woman yet that doesn’t carry a handbag, which means it’s a very important part of who we are. We stash everything we can think of inside our bags from money to even medications, so why settle for poor quality. A good classic handbag is an investment piece that stands the test of time. If you care for your handbag it should always look good and presentable with no loose stitches, frayed handles or loose buckles. I’m not talking a Birkin or Chanel, and there are many options out there that won’t break the bank. You can start with a Coach or Cole Hann handbag, which you can sometimes get under $300.00 and the quality is great, so is their customer service. A couple of years ago I purchased a $500.00+ Coach bag and about a year and half later the patent leather was coming undone on the handle, so I paid the $20.00 to have it fixed by them and they shipped it for me at the store. A few weeks after, I received a call from the store that my handbag couldn’t be fixed, but they would issue me a FULL CREDIT for a replacement bag of my choice. Although, I really wanted my original bag fixed because it was gorgeous, I was willing to accept the offer as I won’t use a weathered bag. That’s what I call good customer service and way to generate loyal customers. If you save $2.00 a day for the next 8 months (that’s one cup of coffee) you can get yourself a really nice piece. And I think a nice bag looks better in your arm than a coffee cup in your hand. I have compiled a list of some good investment pieces, that are classy and functional, so start saving.

Now Reading.. Fairy Tale Interruped by RoseMarie Terenzio

I'm almost done with this book and it's a magnificent read.  RoseMarie Terenzio gives us an insight on the daily life of JFK Jr. and his wife.  She takes us through the glamorous and also the mundane life of  the most famous couple at the time.  It chronicles her life as his assistant, friend and confidant and her life after his death.  A MUST READ.

A great quote from the book: “Whenever there’s a tragedy, a tiny nub of green starts to grow inside you. It’s a regrowth,” John continued. “You have to hold on to that little nub until it grows into the tree that is the next part of your life.” http://fairytaleinterrupted.com/

Items I can’t seem to shake off my ever changing beauty inventory

When in Rome

Last month while in Rome I spotted this woman casually walking down the narrow streets holding her bike and dressed to kill. Even the elements on her bike matched her outfit. Very far removed from the way we dress in Miami.... but equally inspiring.
